the heart and soul of West Denmark
always extends outward
Sharing our resources and celebrating our lives of faith are integral parts of the mission of West Denmark. These ministries, along with providing inspiring worship experiences, are at the core of who we are and what we do as a thriving community of faith. Join us we demonstrate our passion for social justice and carry out radical hospitality!

Support for the Recovery Community:
- West Denmark hosts Alcoholic Anonymous meetings: 9:00 a.m. Saturday mornings
- We’ve hosted “Mothers in Recovery” – A day long gathering where women in recovery share stories, meals, and fellowship. Their children participate in outdoor and indoor play-based activities and share meals with their mothers.
- West Denmark provided the setting and support to host a sober “Friendsgiving” with a turkey dinner and movie. This was sponsored by Redwood Recovery Programs, along with West Denmark.
Support for Sustainable Farming and Food Security:
- West Denmark provides occasional meeting space for the St. Croix Valley Food Alliance. We also provide space for the annual meeting of the Natural Alternatives Food Cooperative.
- We support the local food pantry “Loaves and Fishes” through food donations and member volunteers.
- West Denmark is the “peanut butter provider” church for the Salvation Army backpack program in the Luck School District.
Support for events and education that keep our Danish heritage alive:

- West Denmark Family Camp is an annual three-day event held on the West Denmark campus. It is based on the Danish Folk School model of hospitality and life-long learning. The Camp is open to church members and to the broader community. Family Camp runs from June 30 to July 3 each year.
- The West Denmark Heritage Council, a non-profit organization, partners with our congregation to provide musical events by world class musicians. These events draw patrons from all over the Midwest and have been a wonderful introduction to our church and campus for many people.
- The Hauguard West Denmark Fiddle School, another offering of the Heritage Council, is a weeklong school for fiddle players, as well as other string instruments. Classes are held in June on the West Denmark campus with an instructor’s concert as well as a student finale concert.
- The West Denmark Woodland School is a group childcare program based on the Scandinavian Forest Schools. Children ages 2 ½ to 5 years may enroll for the full week or partial week and participate in early childhood enrichment programming.
- West Denmark hosts an annual Aebleskiver Dinner on the first Saturday in May. Our traditional meal of aebleskiver, medisterpolse, and rolkag (Danish pancakes, sausage and red cabbage) are dearly loved. The meal is attended by folks from all around and is a major fund raiser for the church as well as a reminder of our Danish heritage.
Support for our members and our community:
- West Denmark has a robust visitation ministry provided by trained lay volunteers as well as our Interim Pastor and Parish Associate. Congregation members, as well as others who have requested, or whose friends have requested, receive regular visits at their place of residence or at their medical facility. Homebound communion is also available.
- We have a book group that meets bimonthly. This group meets either by Zoom or in person depending on where its participants are located. Books are selected by the group and are generally theologically adjacent.
- West Denmark offers Bible studies during the week. We are currently meeting at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays.
- We host periodic mommunity meals, where neighbors, friends, and church folks bring potluck dishes to a Sunday meal. Occasionally we host a game night along with these events.
- West Denmark is a member church of the United Pioneer Home in Luck and hosts monthly services in its chapel.
- We have an active and robust choir. Our musicians are highly trained and provide outstanding leadership in our music ministry.

- We have a quilting ministry that meets regularly on a day that is convenient for the quilters. We have provided quilts for our neighbors and continue to work on gifting others.
- Our “Encore” group meets on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. This group focuses on issues relevant to the later stages of life. It is designed as a support and educational group.
- Our young people participate in Sunday School starting at age 4 up to 6th grade when they transition to Confirmation and youth group activities. Our youth take an active role in worship , participate in community service projects, take part in fun activities and are planning on taking a weeklong mission trip in 2026.
